Read Charlotte worked with Learning Ovations, the California-based company behind A2i, to develop the Reading Checkup, which gives families a quick, simple way to learn their PreK-3rd grade child’s reading level.
The free online tool is the family-focused version of the A2i system. It uses short quizzes to determine a child’s current reading level and then provides results, an individual reading plan, and recommendations for specific activities to do at home. Read Charlotte curated or created nearly 400 skill-building activities to embed in Reading Checkup.
We promote Reading Checkup directly to families, and also work with our community partners to integrate it into their family outreach work. More than 5,030 Reading Checkups have been completed since the tool was rolled out in Mecklenburg County in 2020.
