Amira is a digital tutoring program for reading. It uses AI to listen to children read and then delivers individualized micro-interventions to support word-reading skills, reading fluency, listening comprehension, and vocabulary.
After an initial review, Read Charlotte worked with community partners to pilot Amira starting in the 2024-25 school year, and received promising feedback. We’ve since expanded the pilot further, to more than 2,400 students across seven partners in the 2025-26 school year.
We are continuing to learn from the expanded pilot. So far, we’ve seen that this technology-based program can provide scalable individualized reading support at an affordable cost.
